24 September 2024: London Screen Academy (LSA) is delighted to announce its latest collaboration with the ITV Academy. This autumn, in partnership with Lifted Entertainment (part of ITV Studios), LSA students will embark on a new post-production project, developing the skills needed to edit fast-paced, non-scripted entertainment shows.
As a state-funded sixth form academy, LSA is committed to enabling young people of all backgrounds who are passionate about film and TV to graduate ‘set ready’ for a career in the screen industries, or with transferable skills to achieve success on an alternative career path.
LSA’s Post Production Pathway sits alongside the Academy’s three other specialisms of Craft, Production Management and Technical. The Post Production Pathway provides students with the technical skills and industry knowledge required to work in picture editing, VFX and animation, preparing students for entry-level work within these sectors.
LSA’s Post Production Department has spent a year developing this exciting new editing project with ITV Academy and Lifted Entertainment, which launches in September ‘24.
The ITV Academy brings together new and existing initiatives across ITV into one place to make it easier for existing production staff and those looking to join ITV to access training and development.
By working with ITV Academy, students of all backgrounds, abilities and experiences receive industry-leading production training while being part of a well-networked and supportive cohort.
Editing talent was identified as an area that lacked diversity with a shortage of people coming into post-production with an interest in and the skills required to work on fast-paced non-scripted entertainment shows.
Paul Cousins, Deputy Head of Post-Production LSA, said: “ITV have helped us find the final jigsaw piece for our editing curriculum, supporting us with consultation, professional rushes to work with and ongoing feedback that allows students to build a professional skill set for a specific job role in non-scripted post-production. It’s a project that has been exciting to develop and we are even more excited to deliver it!””
Sonny Hanley, Director, ITV Academy, said: “We’re excited to partner with the London Screen Academy, offering students an incredible opportunity to dive into the technical and creative aspects of post-production, with a focus on non-scripted programmes. The ITV Academy was created to address both current and future skills gaps, and we’re dedicated to providing world-class training to meet that demand. By using our experienced editors and content from our shows as part of the course, we are helping to open doors and create career pathways for students, ensuring a bright future for those just beginning their journeys in TV.”
